So I was on a fishing forum and they were talking about Obama wanting more gun control, which never makes sense to me. Anyhow, I got all ranty and figured I'd just copy/paste the thing here. Enjoy!
Jesus. Government. Seriously.
You know what O's against? The
Constitution as it was written. It's apparently irrelevant today,
according to many people. Really? Something in the basis of all human
nature changed in the last couple hundred years that made it any less
relevant today than it was back then? Interesting. Then why was it
relevant 550 years before the Constitution when it was called the Magna
F-ing Carta? Why was it relevant another 120 years before that when it
was called the Charter of Liberties? But no ... whereas the US
Constitution limited the role of the Federal Government, The Big O is
saying that it should say how the FEDERAL Government is going to
provide for its people. And where does the Federal Government get the
money to take care of us downtrodden Americans? Oh, that's right ...
from those of us who work. From those of us who risk everything on a
daily basis to make this country what it is.
Obama was on the
radio discussing how he thought these her inherent flaws in the
Constitution. Did people care about him thinking he's smarter than our
forefathers? Did people actually pay attention to what the Constitution
said and think for themselves? No. They decided they weren't going to
have to worry about their mortgage or a car payment because he was
going to bring "hope and change" to this country. They voted for the
flashiest candidate. He sold them their snake oil and now all of our
country's collective ailments are cured. But truly, what change is
there? What HOPE is there? Not much. He's going to "help out the middle
class" by taxing the sh!t out of their bosses so their wages go down
and their privately-funded healthcare goes away. Hmm ... yeah, that's
really helping out, isn't it?
Truly, though, both sides need
to learn to butt the f#*k out of our business and understand that your
role as our Government is pretty straightforward ... provide protection
in the form of military and police. Either side of the aisle, however,
has decided that they want to control everything, whether it's their
business or not, they just have different methods. Don't like dem
homos? Fine ... don't let them get married. Those people smoking weed
are evil ... let's make sure we don't let them do that, either. What?
People are trying to shoot guns? Well I know what we can do to stop
that ... tax the f*#k out of the ammo. We need more money, still,
though ... oh, smoking's no longer stylish ... let's tax the hell out
of that! And they don't even disguise the fact that sometimes new taxes
are implemented simply so they can decrease what they see as poor
behavior. That's sick. The Government shouldn't tell us how to live our
lives.
Another thing we have to learn ... AMERICA IS NOT A
DEMOCRACY! Quit teaching that in your PUBLIC schools. This country was
built as a Republic, not a Democracy. What's the difference? It may not
be huge, but it's IMPORTANT. In America, as it was constructed, the
rights of the INDIVIDUAL shall NEVER be taken away. Our FREEDOM is what
people gave their lives for, and I am thankful every day for that.
Therefore, the majority cannot vote in a law that will restrict the
freedom of ONE person. In a straight democracy, however, majority
rules. Two words for you: Smoking F-ing Ban. We voted into law
legislation that allows us to tell a PRIVATE business owner what they
can do in a building that they own ... on their own property. And why?
For convenience. We don't want our clothes smelling like smoke. We
don't want to breathe all of those evil carcinogens every time we go
out to get wasted at a bar and then drive home. We don't want to have
to smell everyone's ashtrays. What do we want to do? We want to tell a
business owner what he can and cannot do on his own property.
Sickening. And that's just where it starts, too. We can say that
smoking is bad and justify this behavior by judging the smoker. But
where does it stop? I'm sick of looking at fatties. Maybe we should
outlaw overeating. I also hate left-handed people. I think that in the
Bible it even said that they all worship Satan. They should be
imprisoned until they are ambidextrous. This kind of thinking is
ridiculous. The thought that we can tell people how to run their lives
is utterly sickening.
We need to go back to what this country
was built upon in the first place. We need smaller Federal Government.
We need to clean House (and Senate, for that matter). We need to go
through the laws and see which ones are about protecting people from
others and which ones are about protecting people from themselves, then
purge appropriately. Once we have the laws figured out, we need to
punish the remaining ones HARSHLY, SWIFTLY and PUBLICLY. We need people
to fail for themselves. We need people to understand that they have
responsibilities too. We need a lot of things, but it would be an
incredibly drastic change, a very painful process. We went through a
very painful process after the Boston Tea Party, though. Rather than
figuring out what we can get for free, why don't we figure out what we
can do to make this world a better place? It's not by stealing
someone's money and playing Robin Hood with it, I'll tell you that. And
while we're at it, let's quit trying to tell everybody he was a hero
rather than a common criminal.
